Have you lost your faith? Here’s how you can recover it.
It can be tricky trying to keep our faith throughout our lives. There are various issues and difficult situations that we may have to go through that will test our faith to its limits. For instance, if you fall ill with a serious health condition you might start to question why God would let this happen to you. You might also start to notice a lot more poverty in your local area, which could lead you to question God’s benevolence. There are so many different scenarios that test faith, and many people end up losing their religion as a result.
Have you found that you’ve started to question God and your faith quite a bit recently? If so, you may need to act before you lose your faith completely. Here are some tips that can help you with that.
Find A Different Church
Perhaps you just need a change of scenery. Every church has a slightly different view of the Bible and religion, and they could preach their teachings differently to other religious communities. If you don’t enjoy your current church’s sermons or find that they don’t answer your questions, you might be better off going to a different church. You might prefer the Radiant Church and the way in which it tries to spread the word of God, for instance. Once you’ve found the perfect church, your doubt in your faith should disappear. Or God may direct you to a new church. When we moved last time, it was uncanny how God directed us to the church He intended us to attend. So let the Spirit of God lead you.
Read The Bible
Maybe you just need to refresh your memory of Jesus’ teachings? If you haven’t read or studied the Bible for quite some time, it could be worth revisiting it and taking a look at some of its more meaningful passages. If you aren’t too sure which chapters and passages to focus on, you can always go to your local Bible study group. They will regularly meet and discuss a topic or theme and its related Bible passages each week.
If you have lost your faith, I recommend you start reading the Bible with the book of John. He is the disciple known as the one Jesus loved. His story tells of his time spent ministering with and learning from Jesus.
Oh how Jesus loves us. That is what you will read in John 3:16. God loved us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, so you and I will live with Him in heaven forever when we choose to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus lived the perfect life you and I should live and died the death you and I deserve, so we can be redeemed from this fallen world to live forever with Him.
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (HCSB)
Speak To Your Friends
I’m sure that your friends and family who share your faith will be able to remind you just how important and necessary it is. They will also be able to discuss their own faith with you and let you know why they have chosen to follow the way of the Lord. Once you hear their reasons, it could be enough to convince you to reinstate your own faith.
Talk To The Pastor
Your pastor will always be available whenever you need to talk to someone, and they are the perfect person to chat to when you have lost your faith. They have plenty of knowledge about Christianity and the Bible. They also are able to point out how you can build on your faith to recommit to God once again.
Remember Why You Originally Had Faith
I’m sure you had plenty of reasons to believe in God in the first place. If you remind yourself of these, then you might remember some very convincing reasons to recover your faith again! Here’s what I know.
God loves you and me so much that His desire is none–not a single one of us–should perish, but have everlasting life–with Him. Do you know He also delights in us so much He sings over us–that means He sings over you and me?
“For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)
I pray these pointers help turn you from lost your faith to in love with the Lord again.
