Y’all, I return from a three week trip to Africa today. Oh the places we shall go, the things we shall see and the soft spots in hard places we shall create. I’ve wanted to go to Africa since I was a small child to see the CRITTERS and to make a difference for someone.
Holt and I started with a safari through the Masai Mara in Kenya. I cannot wait to share that experience with you. This is the land of the BIG CATS, where lions, leopards and cheetah are common. This trip is a celebration of our 40th anniversary (I know, I was only 9, right?!).
The annual migration of the wildebeests from Tanzania to Kenya draws spectators, including us. Crocodiles. Lions. Wildebeests. Zebra. Leopards. Cheetah. Gazelle. Antelope and so much more. The circle of life. We will experience it anew.
Yet here’s the deal. I had a dream a lion ate me through the tent before we left! My husband was like – you never get nervous, what’s that about?!
Here’s my prayer, my praise and my thanksgiving offering to the Lord:
My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths so that they couldn’t hurt me. He did this because he considered me innocent. Your Majesty, I haven’t committed any crime.”
Daniel 6:22 (GOD’S WORD® Translation)
Thank You Father God. Help me commit no crime against You, O Majesty.
But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth.
Yes, Lord, let us proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to Your people in many places.
Once we depart from Kenya, we head to Malawi. There we will visit the refugee camp and a Muslim village on Lake Malawi, where I will teach, preach and pray for these precious people. During the two weeks there, I will teach two classes at the African Business Institute in their graduate program. It’s humbling to help these students prepare to build their businesses and make a difference in the Kingdom.
We will join my spiritual son, John Mulepa, as we go with him to minister to the orphans and widows at Dzaleka Refugee Camp, a United Nations Refugee Camp.
Every penny I collected as donations purchased pillows in Malawi for the orphans at the camp. Why? Last year, I heard God instruct me to “create a soft spot in a very hard place.” The widows will be my next priority.
Tell me where you have been. I’m excited to learn about all the places we shall go and have gone! I’ll fill you in once I’ve returned.
