Evil = something that causes harm or distress; morally bad or wrong
WHY are we discussing evil??? Because my husband and I were in the midst of EVIL on Monday. We were THRILLED to be cheering on Amby Burfoot as he ran the 45th anniversary of winning the historic Boston Marathon. Until EVIL showed up.
Three people lost their lives including a little 8 year old boy, over 180 individuals were harmed, and countless numbers distressed, both at the event, in Boston, across the country and around this precious world of ours.
So how do we take comfort in those moments when evil rears its hideous self? By seeking God. In His Word and in the circumstances in which we encounter HIM in our lives.
Isaiah 5:20
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Proverbs 24:19-20
Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of the wicked, for the evil man has no future hope and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
Proverbs 11:19-21
19 The truly righteous man attains life
but he who pursues evil goes to his death.
20 The Lord detests men of perverse heart
but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
21 Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Proverbs 21:15
When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.
We choose how we live–in fear of evil and evildoers or faith in God. God shows us through His word that we can live without fear. HE IS WITH US–even in the presence of evil! Be comforted by His word and His promises…to us. He reigns!
