New Age. Are you entangled in that web? Or are you a new creation in Christ Jesus? Meredith Swift shares her moving story of moving from New Age to New Creation as Jesus set her free. Glory Hallelujah! Jesus saves!
For as long as I can remember, I have wondered about the meaning of life.
Why was I here?
How did I come to be here?
Was my life going to be one which counted, where I made a difference to others?
The pull of the spiritual was always a source of fascination for me – far greater than the attraction of the physical world. I was far more interested in what was unseen rather than what I could see with my physical eyes.
I felt different from other people and, in order to try to understand others and fit in, I was led into many and varied experiences – some good and some not so good. My early life, living a carefree and quite sheltered existence on a sheep and dairy farm, was a stark contrast to my later struggles with drugs and alcohol, the pain of depression, the torment of marriage with an abusive partner and the challenges of raising a daughter with autism.
Healing has also been a big focus in my life. During my 20s and 30s I explored many different New Age therapies – including Reiki, meditation, channelling, crystal and sound healing, yoga and various forms of body work. I was inspired to help people the way I had been helped and so I studied therapeutic massage and alternative healing, running my own successful business for many years.
I fully embraced what I believed to be the “love and light” of the New Age movement. Its principles were the foundation to my life. Yet deep within me there was a raw and aching wound which was never able to be healed. Something was missing. I just did not know what it was. I certainly did not believe it could have anything to do with Jesus.
In the New Age, Jesus is depicted as a master healer and not our loving Savior – the Way, the Truth and the Life – who died for us so that we could be set free.
To me, Christianity was a boring and stifling religion that I wanted nothing to do with. But I came to realize that religion is very different to knowing Jesus – and a relationship with the Lord Jesus is anything but boring and stifling!
As I recount and reflect on the experiences of my life, I see His loving fingerprints throughout. Jesus brought me to a place where I was ready to accept Him into my heart and surrender all that I had been – to Him. And I realized what had been lacking.
The Lord of the Universe, Creator of all that is, wanted to be with me! My life began moving in a whole new direction, including becoming a writer.
I was finally able to leave my abusive marriage once and for all. I moved away from New Age philosophies and began to realize that what I had once believed in was, at its core, steeped in deception and darkness.
“From New Age to New Creation – Set Free” is my second book. It is the testimony of my life – my story of coming to faith, of exploring how I was lost and deceived, of how I was living in darkness when I believed I was in the light. My life has been one of overcoming great adversity to now live in the true freedom that my loving Savior has given me.
About Meredith Swift:
First and foremost, I love Jesus! He has transformed my life in every way possible and is the reason that I write. In my books, I aim to encourage, inspire and uplift you and to point you towards the deep and transforming love of Christ. He is the One who loves us in all our brokenness. Faith in Him truly sets us free!
I am an Australian and my home is sunny Townsville in tropical North Queensland. I have also travelled and lived in many different places both in Australia and overseas. I am an avid writer and reader, I love to cook and walk in Nature.
I am a Mum to two beautiful daughters and my younger daughter lives with me and our assorted pets. My older daughter, who is autistic, lives in her own unit with wonderful support from a dedicated team 24/7. In amongst my quiet time and taking time to write, I teach Kindergarten. An introvert by nature, I love meeting new people and hearing their stories.
I became born again after accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 2010. I turn to Him in times of joy and in times of challenge, and all the times in between, leaning in close to Him. I know from personal experience how very hard and painful life can be and I also know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that no matter what you are going through in your life, you need Jesus. He is here for you!
