Christmas is by far one of my favorite times of year. My boys loved everything about this wonderful holiday, yet it is so easy to lose focus on what Christmas is all about—the birth of Jesus Christ.
A dear friend, Natalie Ard, wondered how she could bring a little more of Jesus to her family’s Christmas season fun. Natalie sought to embrace her children’s excitement and create a new family tradition.
The focus of her quest?
To incorporate a daily reminder of Jesus during the Christmas season.
God blessed her with the idea of the Christmas “Star From Afar.”
This Christmas activity has given Natalie a chance to teach her children that Christmas is not about the presents they receive, finding an elf, writing a letter to Santa, or building snowmen – all fun things.
Follow the Star this Christmas
“The Christmas Star From Afar” encourages children to go on a hunt for their Star like the quest of the Wise Men.
Everyday the Star is hidden and the children participate in a fun hide-and-seek game to locate it. Once they have found their Star they move all Three Wise Men to its location.
On Christmas morning the Three Wise Men reach their final destination when the Star is found at the stable with the newborn baby Jesus.
The activity book includes a wooden Star, a full wooden nativity scene that matches the artwork of the book, and optional scripture to use throughout the month.
It’s very simple and so much fun!
- Set up your nativity
- Hide the Star every night
- Once your children find the Star move all Three Wise Men to its location
- Read the optional scripture
- Repeat each day
- On Christmas Eve place your Star on the top of your nativity stable
- On Christmas morning your Three Wise Men reach the nativity scene to find their King, baby Jesus!
- You can easily combine the “Star From Afar” with other traditions your family participates in such as an Advent Calendar
- Consider placing a little treat or sweet with your Star every day to make this fun game work with your Advent Calendar.
- Or include a hint on the Advent Calendar to guide your children to the Star each day.
