All That and a Slice of Bread
Have you ever heard the saying, all that and a slice of bread? Yea, me too. That still small voice whispered to me this morning…in my prayer time!
OK, God, what are you talking about – a slice of bread? Have you been driven to plow into His Word to see what He has to say about something? Compelled is the word I experienced this morning. I simply had to dig into His Word searching for bread. And here’s what I found…
I am the bread of Life. John 6:48
Yes, You are, O Lord!
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
Feed me, Lord God Almighty, with your precious Word.
His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” Matthew 15:33
Yes, Lord, where can I get enough of You to feed such a crowd…and me, too?
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Matthew 26:26
Yes, Lord. I shall “do this in remembrance” of You. Thank You for Your Word remembrance in Luke 22:19.
and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. Mark 6:43
Broken pieces, multiplied. I am broken, Lord. Pick me up and multiply the broken pieces to glorify You alone.
[ The Last Supper ] On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” Mark 14:12
Customary to sacrifice the Passover LAMB? Make preparations for You? Oh, Lord, I have heard this passage of scripture all my life, yet never saw it like this before now.
Customary…as is the custom of the day. Anticipated.
Preparations…to make ready…The Passover LAMB. Oh, Lord, thank You, that You were prepared and made ready for The Sacrifice at The Cross…
[ The Last Supper ] Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Luke 22:7
The day the Passover LAMB had to be sacrificed? You were prepared and made ready, then HAD to be sacrificed. Teach me, Lord.
Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” John 6:31
Thank you, Father, that You fed our ancestors in the wilderness. We can trust You to provide, even in our own wilderness times.
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. John 6:32
True bread from heaven. Thank You, Father.
For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” John 6:33
Life! To the world. Praise God.
“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” John 6:34
Amen, Lord, give us this bread today-and always!
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35
Whoever includes me (and you!), too. I come. I believe. You, too?!
At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” John 6:41
I am the bread of life. John 6:48
I AM. Oh, Father, that is Your Name. I AM. Bread of Life. Thank You.
But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. John 6:50
Anyone may eat and NOT die?! Thank You, Lord, that ALL are welcome at Your table.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51
I give for the life of the world. Holy Father God, thank You that You gave us Jesus to be the living Bread.
This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” John 6:58
Feed on this Bread. Live forever, with You in Heaven. Amen, Lord Jesus.
Give us each day our daily bread. Luke 11:3
