Safe. Secure. Serene.

The Storms of Life

That’s where we lose our balance and our bearings, teetering, falling, toppling into despair.  Oh, Father, I truly don’t want to go there…

Safe. Secure. Serene

That storm brewing on the horizon may come our way. Expect it to. Prepare for it. Be securely set for it. Here’s the great news we need to know – that storm hasn’t met our God yet. We are Safe. Secure. Serene.

Have you ever felt so very secure, yet you could see the storm brewing on the horizon? The black clouds gather and grow – oh, so gloomy. The storm looms large and is headed your way.

Yet you sit secure. You know you’re in a safe place so you snuggle in a little more, closer to the source of solace. Safe. Secure. Serene.

Safe. Secure. Serene. Have you ever felt so very secure, yet you could see the storm brewing on the horizon? This post provides 3 scripture verses to help you feel safe when life's storms hit.

[Tweet “May I ask where you’re sitting that makes you feel so safe in the face of a storm?”]

What’s the source of your solace?

6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:6-7 (NIV)

[Tweet “I’m safely seated in heavenly places and Jesus is the source of my solace. Of course!”]

Do you know God will show His grace and express His kindness to us? Riches that are incomparable – that’s what God gives us.

Incomparable = matchless, without an equal in quality, totally different in nature or extent, unable to be compared, having no equal, comparison is impossible.

Incomparable. Totally different. Having no equal. Yes, that’s the gift God gives us with His Son, Jesus. And that’s how we face storms feeling safe, secure, and serene – with our incomparable King.

So that storm brewing on the horizon may come our way. Expect it to. Prepare for it. Be securely set for it. Here’s the great news we need to know – that storm hasn’t met our God yet.

And that makes me feel safe, secure, serene. You too?

I know this…

We are seated in Heavenly places
with our Holy King
in the Throne Room of Grace
that’s where we lean.

In the mighty arms of God
In His bosom
He holds us
Yes…Safe, secure, serene.

Yes, we are safely held in His mighty arms…

Even on Christmas Eve when my 90-year-old dad was driven to the ER for the 2nd time in 2 days.
Tests reveal things that ought not be where they are,
yet there they are.
Things protrude into other things,
body fluids misbehave,
pain packs a one-two punch.
Words like bloody, clots, admit and observe swirl in the air.

And hover
like cloud cover
over and above.

Yet Jesus
is the reason
for the season
and all of life too.

He’s The Name
above all names
so confident
we sit.

Thank You, God that my sister’s a nurse and knows what to do and where to go. Me, I’ll stay right where you have me, safely ensconced in Your Mighty Wings and Your Holy Word. Or is that knee deep in prayer?

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. Psalm 57:1

Yes, we face a storm. A big storm. A storm brewing big black billowing clouds that threaten to blow through us, undo us, yet we know we are safe, secure, serene…

We hear God say
Lean on me,
Linger here a little longer,
For I am your refuge.
I am the shield that protects you.
I am your safe, secure, serene place…
For I am your KING.

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5

Lion of Judah – Roar
Hurry – tell me more
Hold me near
In a place so very dear.

That storm brewing on the horizon may come our way. Expect it to. Prepare for it. Be securely set for it. Here’s the great news we need to know – that storm hasn’t met our God yet. We are safe, secure, serene.

Do not weep
for God will keep
His Word…
and TRIUMPH!

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4

Come to me little children
and be
Safe, secure, serene.
Regardless of the storm you face
I will hold you
Safe, secure, serene.

Thank You, Father God. What a gift You give today and every day. In Your Holy Presence, we remain safe, secure and serene as we enter 2016. Oh, sweet 16!

  1. Hi Susan,
Thank you for these beautiful words today. The safety under His wings. I needed the reminder. I am praying for your father and all of you through this time. My daddy is 85 and I feel that anxiousness every time he falls ill. I know what you are feeling.
    Much love,
    Lori

  4. I feel very secure in the Lord, Susan, and Eph. 2:6-7 is one of my all-time favorite passages. So your post is an encouraging reminder to me to focus on my strong God who holds me close in every storm I face in life. Thanks so much for the linkup, Susan! And Happy New Year, my friend!

  5. Happy to read these words of encouragement here this morning for the storms in my own life, and praying for your dad’s health issues to be resolved quickly.

  6. Yes! How lucky we are to be children of God who can always lean on and trust Him for our needs! Thank you for sharing this awesome Truth!

  7. Great words. I know I felt that calmness in the midst of a storm while boating on our lake. High waves. But I just prayed and felt His presence. May the Lord continue to give you the peace that only He can give through stormy situations.
    Blessings,
    Janis

  9. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings. I love that verse. Thank you so much for sharing with us at Sitting Among Friends. I love your work and I love being able to share it with my readers. We look forward to seeing you back next Wednesday. I will be praying for you and your family at this time.

  10. Beautiful Susan and yes He’s been there through all of our storms – my storms and I’ve been privileged to witness His miracles as we walked in faith.

  11. Thank you for the reminder that with Christ, we truly are safe in the midst of the storm. A relevant and timely reminder, since our family is in the midst of both joy, and new storms this year. Thank you for the opportunity to share part of my story and to connect with others. Wishing you an incredible 2016!

  12. Happy New Year, Susan! Many prayers for your dad and the rest of your family. Those storms can be so difficult. I’m still learning to go straight to Him after a lifetime of running from Him in those situations. Thank you for your beautiful and much needed encouragement this morning.

  13. Susan, this is such a wonderful post! So full of encouragement! Thank you for sharing this, Dear Heart. Happy New Year and GOD bless you, beautiful friend! 🙂

  14. Oh Susan, this post is so appropriate for the storms (tornados) we faced in Dallas last week. It was so unnerving to hear those sirens and see the lights flicker on and off. I didn’t make the connection between that and the storms of life, but you can bet I’ll put it in my writer’s notebook now!

I’m so sorry about your Dad. May God’s grace cover you, friend. And your dad too.

  15. Susan, I love this post because I am ANYTHING but serene most of the time. (In fact, I’ve wondered about having the words “serene at last” on my grave stone . . .). Your words are antidote to the poison thinking that we have to be striving ceaselessly in this life. Trusting for grace this year (2016!) to be mindful of where I’m sitting.

  16. Susan,
Thank you for sharing these truths to start off my/our new year. Safe, secure, serene…even saying those words brings refuge to my searching soul. May they dwell richly in my heart, that my Savior is where I can find safety, security, serenity when the storms of life brew. May I lean into Him. Thank you for this beautiful offering…Happy New Year!!
    Blessings,
    Bev
